These schemes depend on volunteer drivers using their own cars and are usually restricted to residents of a particular area who have no other means of getting to a hospital or medical appointment. Below are details of some schemes – if there is not one listed for your area your doctor’s surgery should be able to advise you if a local scheme exists.

Beaconsfield Advisory Centre Good Neighbour Scheme

Volunteer drivers provide transport to hospital and health related appointments and occasionally for shopping. The scheme is run by “Beaconsfield Advisory Centre” (see entry in Information, Advice and Advocacy section for contact details).

British Red Cross Transport and Escort Service

Volunteer drivers, using their own cars, provide transport and escort services to enable people who cannot use public transport to attend medical appointments, to visit relatives in hospital and to have respite holidays.

£ Passengers are charged per mile from driver's home and return. Parking charges, if applicable, to be paid by passenger.

Burnham Good Neighbour Scheme

Transport to hospital and health related appointments for patients of Burnham Health Centre and Burnham residents.

Chalfont St Giles Good Neighbours Scheme

This service is for patients of the Chalfonts St Giles doctor’s surgery only.

This service is for people from Chesham and surrounding villages.

Transport and Escort Co-ordinator, British Red Cross Society, Branch Headquarters, Winsway House, Unit 11C, Triangle Business Park, Wendover Road, Aylesbury, HP22 5BL 01296 739304 Monday to Friday 9.30am – 4.30pm for information and bookings. Service available 7 days per week, times negotiable depending on availability of drivers. 72 hours notice preferred.

Prestwood Community Association Car Scheme

Village car scheme for people who are not able to use public transport (or where no suitable public transport exists). Volunteer drivers take people to medical appointments, to visit relatives in hospital or to shops etc. Please give a minimum of 48 hours notice to book.
